People are upset about gas prices because gas is currently over $4 a gallon, which they find ridiculous. Many people remember when gas was 30 cents a gallon.

Gas prices are high for a number of reasons. For starters, most of the world's oil comes out of the OPEC nations, most of which are located in the Middle East. With all of the unrest in the Middle East, the people who control the flow of oil are nervous, so they raise the price. Also, the OPEC nations simply aren't producing as much oil these days, and the amount of oil available determines the price.
