Many reasons are possible. Some but not all of the reasons were:
1) Your income is very low.
2) You signed up for Advanced EIC payments.
3) You put down a large number of allowances or "exempt" status on the W-4 that you gave your employer.
4) Your employer is treating you as an independent contractor instead of an employee.
5) You did not have enough salary to cover the taxes on your tips.
6) There was some sort of clerical error.
