The Holy Land is important to the Jewish nation because it was the land promised to them by God, according to the the writings of their holy book, the Torah. Some basic Jewish history: The Jewish people were enslaved in Egypt for many years. A prophet, Moses, led the people in an exodus out of Egypt after convincing Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. Once freed, the nation followed Moses through desert for more than forty years during which time God promised to lead them to a land flowing with milk and honey. They eventually did reach this place (now assumed to have existed in the region of Palestine) and successfully conquered the people that lived there. Because of this struggle, the Holy Land is incredibly important to the Jewish people and their culture.
Because G-d made that land specifically for the Jews.... The land was then overtaken by the Romans and Greeks....
Israel.
Israel is the Jewish homeland. It is where the Jews originated from.
the Holy Land did not spread. If anything, it has shrunk since ancient times.
The Romans
Diaspora
In other cultures the Holy Land is important in other ways. For example, the Romans thought the Holy Land was important because to them more land meant more power. To the Muslims, the Holy Land was important to their religion, but not for the same reson it is important to a Jew or Christian.
Jerusalem is important to Jews because it is their Holy Land and ancestral home. To Christians it is the place of Jesus' resurrection. To Muslims it is important because it is the birthplace of some of their prophets, most of which are also revered by Christians and Jews.
because its holy and important to people who belive in god
Reb Saunders believes, like a number of Orthodox Jews, that the Galut (the Exile from the Holy Land) was a divine act of punishment because Jews had violated the commandments that God had given them. When God believed that the Jewish people had repented and were ready for the Messiah, this Messiah would come and bring the Jews back to the Holy Land. Until that time, Jews will remain in exile. They see a Return to the Holy Land as being an act of blasphemy because Jews should wait for God to bring them into the Holy Land and not to physically move there of their own free will.
Jesus did not lead the Jews to freedom. The Romans went on to destroy the Holy Temple and expel the Jews from the land.
Diaspora. It refers to the emigration of the Jews into areas outside Palestine.
God directed the Jews, who were led by Moses and Joshua.
