this is because radioactive substances can cause great harm to living things as the emit alpha, beta and gamma rays which are harmful at certain levels of exposure to them, these can concentrate in the bones ,lungs etc and cause cancer and non cancerous diseases. further more they can alter our DNA and this can have effect on our offspring,an example is that of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (cities in Japan) on which the USA dropped two nuclear bombs during the second world war on august, 9, 1945. the effects of this bombing still has effect on the peoples health.
