I believe teens work, as in getting a job, because most of them need the money. Also, some may get work to get away from family or friends. Teens need money to do things they want and they know they aren't going to get everything from mommy and daddy when they are older. So, a job is the next step.

It teaches them responsibility and how to handle money properly cause they have to work for it.

A teenager is 1/2 way to becoming an independent adult. An adult is capable of looking after themselves and providing for a family. A teenager therefore needs to gain a work ethic and experience what work is like to prepare himself/herself for full adulthood. A summer job is a good way of obtaining this experience.
Most teens need jobs to have extra money or to pay their phone bill or car insurance.
Teens get jobs because they have to feel independent. Sometime they need cash in their pocket so they get a job to get cash. Rather than going out & selling drugs.
Summer jobs look good when your trying to find jobs later on in life. Also it helps you learn how hard people work everyday. You'll also get money and learn how to save and spend it wisely.

These jobs can be a great way for teens to earn extra cash. Make sure though that they are trained properly. Babysitters, for example, should be certified in first aid. They are more prepared that way and more likely to get a job that way too.
