If you ask a urologist to do this procedure of circumcision, they will only do it for the following reasons. Since it cannot be done for any other reasons than the following, then these are the only reasons why this procedure should be done. They can do a circumcision if it is oriented upon religious belief. The other reason is for complications from foreskin abnormalities such as a foreskin which cannot be retracted. Your personal preference cannot be a reason, especially reasons pertinent to sexual life or love life. They will otherwise only do it if it can be a cure to a problem with the foreskin like cancer or removal of infections do to a sexually transmitted desease.

It is unfortunately a quite common practice.

There are however very few medical conditions that favours a circumcision!

It is mainly done due to religious belief's.

I do not think many men would voluntarily have their foreskin cut off.

Most of these circumcision are done on babies with no say at all. A barbaric action in my opinion when there are no proper reasons for doing it. I do not consider religious beliefs to be a proper reason!

As doctors tend to be more reluctant to perform this procedure, more and more people get their son done by people with little or no medical expertise. This has lead to many a mutilated baby penis.

It is a practice becoming less common but there are unfortunately too many doctors that are more interested in their salary than the baby's well being!

Originally Male genital mutilation was done for religious and cultural reasons. Then for a Little while during the Victorian era it was claimed that is was required foe health reasons and taken up in the English speaking parts of the world. this has started a culture that is now diminishing quickly in most English speaking country's but more slowly in the US as there it is still big business , both the actual circumcision, and the resulting urological repairs that make up a fair proportion of the urologists income. Al that aside though, there is no good reason to circumcise a penis it is in fact harmful and absolutely counter productive at any age.

What is a long foreskin?

By examination of the word 'long' one would assume the question is referring to a foreskin greater than average. Average foreskin covers the glans of the penis completely when soft. When erect average foreskin typically slides back and exposes some if not all of the glans. If a man has 'long' foreskin, by description alone it suggests that the foreskin is of a greater/longer amount than average. Some men with longer foreskins can have an erection with no exposure of the glans. In other cases the foreskin can be long enough to cover the glans during erection with excess at the tip. Typically the position of the foreskin is dependant upon the elasticity and size of the frenum, which attatches the foreskin to the underside of the glans. The more flexible and abundant the frenum is, the more likely the foreskin is able to slide up and down.

Will circumcision get rid of odor?

Circumcision prevents the accumulation of smegma under the foreskin. Smegma has an odor. Therefore if that is the cause of the issue. It will remove it. If the odor is caused by something else it won't. On balance it probably is. It is likely that you have some sort of infection that needs treatment as a healthy penis with or without smegma should not stink. If you are intact and your foreskin is uncomfortably tight but has been retracted then simply doing some foreskin stretching exercises will alleviate your problem.
