In short, sunlight is made of light waves. These light waves are of various energies. The small band of energy we can see is called the visible spectrum. These waves are not dangerous to us. There are light waves that are slightly higher in energy these are known as Ultra Violet(UV) rays. These rays contain enough energy to penetrate your skin cells and cause damage to your DNA. This damage can lead to serious side effects such as skin cancer if you body is unable to properly repair the damage. Luckily the vast majority of the time your body is able to repair the damage through a number of highly complex DNA repair mechanisms.

The sun emits harmful ultraviolet or UV radiation. Being overexposed to UV radiation will cause a painful sunburn. Multiple exposures to too much UV light can cause skin cancer.

Are there any healthy light sources at all?

The sun is the most healthy light source. Abuse of exposure (i.e. too much time in the sun with no protection), is what makes it dangerous.

Will you go blind if you stare into the sun?

Looking at a Solar Eclipse without protection for your eyes is very dangerous. NEVER look directly at the Sun without sufficient protection it WILL damage your eyes, and yes you can damage your eyes to the point of blindness.

Why is a Solar Eclipse So Dangerous?

If you are referring to you eyes, no, definitely not. A SOLAR eclipse is what is dangerous to look at, because the moon is in front of the sun. In a lunar eclipse the sun is in front of the moon. The logic might seem kinda backwards, but it all adds up to the single word that NO, lunar eclipses ARE NOT DANGEROUS.

What happens if a person is exposed to sun rays?

We are always exposed to sun rays. The sun gives out radiation consisting of many different frequencies of light. The major component of light it gives off is visible light (which is why our eyes evolved to see visible light best). It also gives off infrared light, ultra violet light, and even more dangerous frequencies. Luckily, the atmosphere of earth filters out a lot of the dangerous frequencies (although not perfectly). If you stay in the sun too much without sunblock, the ultra violet light that gets through the atmosphere can lead to cancer (it's a game of probability). If you go outside of the atmosphere without protection somehow, the rays from the sun become much more dangerous. You would also be susceptable to cosmic radiation, which can lead to cancer. Of course, the closer you get to the sun, the more concentrated the radiation will be, and the more dangerous it will be.
