Hi, It is because the meteor is going around the speed of light witch is to fast for your eye muscles to control so you just get a blur going past your eyes
Another answer would be, Meteors are only traveling at a few tens of thousands of miles per hour, the main reason many people may not see them is due to daytime sunlight or cloud cover at night.
