Humans are cutting down the bamboo forests for their own needs. Even though bamboo is a fast growing plant, they are being cut down faster than they can regrow. A giant panda's diet is 99% bamboo, with the other 1% consisting of small animals and other vegetation.

Killing endangered animals is never a good thing - well, maybe if that particular animal is about to attack humans, or an even more endangered animal.
But that's about it.
The reason being that Nature interacts in a very complicated way, and it's really hard to know beforehand what will happen if a species were to go extinct. Better then to try to keep them all around instead of risking an ecological collapse which might be difficult-to-impossible to correct.
