Spelling is important in written communication because it provides a clear meaning of the words as written. The recognition of words in their proper form is both faster and more smoothly accomplished.

"Textspeak" has an advantage in brevity but must be processed by the brain in a different way, similar to the way foreign languages are read by non-natives. With practice it can be easily read, as is handwritten and machine stenography. But for optimum clarity, words should appear in formal English.

To ensure correct communication. Mistypes and spelling mistakes only cause problems: dad/bad/bat had/hat have/hate plain/plane (to mention only a few English words) are similar and you want to spell them right to really express what you mean and avoid confusion.
