∙ 10y agoThere is no such thing as Islamiat. There is Islam, Islamist, Islamism, and many other similar words.
The reason for studying Islam, etc. is twofold:
(1) Islam gives an incredible window into the nature of religion and spirituality. Regardless of whether a person accepts or rejects the claims that Islam makes about the world, Islam reveals a method of understanding Truth and organizing the mind.
(2) The actions of Islamists and the politics of Islamism goes a long way towards explaining what is happening in the Middle East.

Should i study Islam before taking the shahadah?
Yes you can. You can definitely look into Islam and study it. Soak everything you know and want to study. Taking your Shahadah and becoming a Muslim is very rewarding. As a Muslim, I know that if you are a Muslim-Convert, Allah rewards you as if you are a newborn. You are almost as sin free as an innocent baby. So yes of course. Study well and do not be too hard on yourself. Do not always necessarily listen to blogs, articles, and chain answers as well. Listen to your heart.
