Why is it important to value childrens needs?

Children have needs, just as adults do. While their needs may be different than those of adults, they are no less important or necessary. For a child to be a happy, well adjusted, loving child, there are certain things they need from their parents. If adults don't value the needs of children, it can do serious, irreparable damage to a child. Aside from the obvious food, clothing and shelter, some of the most important needs of children are:

Unconditional love All children need to be loved, and to know they are loved, which are two different things. Don't just assume your child knows you love him or her - you have to tell them, and show them, and do it often.

Respect The way for children to learn to treat others with respect is for them to be treated with respect, too. You need to respect their privacy, their feelings, opinions, likes and dislikes, etc. You can't treat a child with disrespect, and then wonder why they don't respect you. Respect earns respect.

Honesty If you tell your child you will do something with/for them, keep your word. Otherwise, they won't learn the importance of keeping their word, and they will also learn to not trust your word.

Trust Children need to learn the importance of trust. Teach them they can trust you, and teach them the importance of others trusting them. They need to learn that trust is one of the most important things a person can give.

Security All children need to feel a sense of security. They need to know their life with you is secure and safe. They need a sense of stability, as well.

All of the above are only some of the reasons why it is important to value the needs of children; there are many reasons why a child's needs should be valued. One of the most important things to remember is, kids are people, too.
