Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly known as the "Mormon" church) believe that it was given that name by Jesus Christ in revelation to Joseph Smith. This revelation was given in 1838. For the eight years prior to this that the church was in existence, it had been known as "The Church of Christ."
