Why is it so difficult to find the answers to Amelia Earhart's disappearance?

The vast expanse of territory covered in her Last Flight ( really an expedition, as a number of point-to-point flights were involved), the changes wrought by time and weather and inaccessibility, and a good dollop of , yes, political controversy all build into a cyclonic typhoon named Amelia. There are a good number of controversies about the aviatrix herself even if she lived out a normal life outside of the Electra Project. For example, why was she divorced from her wealthy Publisher husband, with little media attention, in l935? Did he find out she may have been a Lesbian? was Amelia, or ( Electra Powers) possibly, just possibly a Japanese double agent? it goes on and on. endless horizons indeed.
