American society holds that their actions were acceptable because their histories are overlooked, and that American society profited from the act. American society in general has a bad practice of such things, and this is one of the key factors in why relations between our two cultures will never be peaceful.
Look at it like this - would you expect your society to stand up and say: "Look, our entire nation is built on genocide, broken promises, greed, theft, rape, destruction and corruption!"
