Saying it's unhealthy is pushing it a bit.

But breathing through your nose means that the air has to go through a longer path before reaching the lungs. And the nose cavity in particular acts as a filter and a preprocessor, catching dust, balancing the temperature and the moisture content of the air before it reaches the lungs.

It might be a tiny bit healthier, particularly in a dusty environment. But no need to worry if you forget it for awhile.

What does air enter through from the larynx?

It next passes into the lungs when we breathe in, and out through the trachea, the larynx and the mouth and nose when we breathe out.

Where is air inhaled through?

Air should be inhaled through the nose so that it can be warmed up to body temperature before entering the lungs. Despite this, it is perfectly possible to breathe in through the mouth, as the airways are linked to both the nasal passage and the buccal cavity (posh name for the mouth).

Can you smell your own nose?

Yes. If you turn your nostrils inside-out and breathe through your mouth, I can always detect a little hint of nose hair and snot/boogers.

Can you talk and breathe at the same time?

YES. but you know that you cannot keep your eyes open while you sneeze - fact. You normally are breathing out when you are talking. It's the outbound air flow that vibrates your vocal cords and produces the fundamental sounds that become speech. You can do this breathing in but it's hard.

Why should you inhale air through your nose and exhale through your?

You should especially inhale through the nose when it is cold. Cold air damages the fragile linings of the respiratory tract. Blood vessels in the nasal cavity warm inhaled air to reduce the damage caused. If you breathe through the mouth, air is not warmed, leaving you at risk of catching chest infections such as pneumonia. If possible, breathe out through the nose as well, but it doesn't matter so much if you exhale through the mouth, because the exhaled air has already been warmed in your body.
