Copper was good, mainly because it doesn't rust. Now there many pipes in plastics such as PEX, which are infinitely better than copper. Nobody smart uses copper any more.
I say you can as long as you use good quality and compatible solder. The initial annealing process should be low heat as well as the actulal repair etc. Since most plating is gold to silver use same karet gold solder. If it is silver plated make sure the alloy or base metal does not melt. Silver can be tricky. I know from experience not to use tin based solder.
If they are for electrical use, smaller then 16ga., I would solder them together and either tape them or put shrink wrap over them. If for crafts you can twist, braid, and even solder them also, if the wire is flexible enough you can even use knots. Good-Luck

This is not a good idea. Hydrochloric acid is highly corrosive especially towards metal and can easily cause damage to the sink or pipes.
