Can you Describe the early methods of producing insulin?

Before the advent of genetic engineering methods of producing Insulin, the hormone was directly isolated from Cows and Pigs. There was no other option of obtaining these hormones. Once they were isolates from these animals, the went through a crude purification process before being bottled.

What is recombinant DNA technology?

recombinant DNA is a form of artificial DNA which is engineered through the combination or insertion of one or more DNA strands, there by combining DNA sequences which would not normally occur together.

What is a recombinant genotype?

In heredity, A genotypic recombinant is an offspring with a genotype different than both parents for the traits in question. In genetic engineering, any organism with a foreign gene (a gene presumably transferred from a foreign organsim through a genetic engieering process) is a recombinant. This is similar to the definition from heredity, in that the offspring have a trait which the parents do not have.

Insulin is a protein that is produced by pancreatic cells and secreted into the bloodstream what options correctly lists the order of the structures through which insulin passes fro?

rough ER, transport vesicles, Golgi apparatus, transport vesicles, cell membrane quizlet.com

What is the route of insulin from its production to its exit from the cell?

The route of the insulin from its production to its exit from the cell is at the pancreatic cells. This is then secreted in the bloodstream.

What is the process of making human insulin with bacteria?

Human insulin is made with bacteria through recombinant DNA. It introduces a copy of human insulin DNA to a host cell, which then produces human insulin.

Through recombinant DNA scientists have been able to?

use bacteria as "factories" for protein products such as insulin

What do phlebotomy do?

Phlebotomy is the act of extracting blood from humans or animals. To do it, you have to go through a training to get the phlebotomy certification, after sitting for a national exam.

Does insulin pass through dialysis tube?

If the cut off from tube dialysis will be larger than the insulin shape, insulin cant pass through it

What methods are there for extracting crude oil?

Sip it through a straw.

What do scientists use recombinant DNA for?

rDNA improves: Better crops(drought and heat resistance). Recombinant vaccines for (hepatitis b). Prevention and cure of cystic fibrosis. Production of clotting factors. Production of insulin. Plants that produce their own insecticides. Cloning animals Eating food Living life Fishing for bees in the summertime

How is commercial insulin prepared?

Standard insulin is an extract taken from the pancreases of cattle from slaughterhouses. However not all diabetics respond well to animal insulin. Genetic engineering has provided a way to manufacture actual human insulin for diabetics that can't use animal insulin. The human insulin gene (edited to remove the introns, which bacteria can't process correctly) is inserted into the chromosome of a bacterium and the bacteria are allowed to grow. Once they have a pure culture of the modified bacteria they are grown in large fermentation tanks. The bacteria produce and secrete the human insulin into the liquid in the tank and as this liquid is circulated to replenish the food for the growing bacteria the insulin is extracted. Some additional processing is needed to perform some steps that the bacteria can't do, the end result is true human insulin.

What is the purpose for the pancreas?

to send insulin through the body.
