modem means modulator demodulater. hat is it amplifies the signal or data and send it to our PC and at the same time it has to demodulate the data sent from servers. Also modem has to modulate the signals sent by comp. i.e. The sending requests from browsers and uploads. I am answering as i know with a level of class twelth of indian school.
