My poolaris sportsman 600 was running,battery ligfht was flashing and when I turned it off it wouldn start again I put new battery in it yedterday,have powEr to lights and wench but won't start any answers?
i had the same exact problem with my 2001 polaris sportsman 400. It is either your voltage regulator or your stator. With your ATV running disconnect the positive terminal on your battery. IF the ATV quits instantly then its probably your stator.
If it is running on the battery only then that means the alternator is not charging the battery.
The battery light indicates the system is not charging. Have the charging system checked. If the alternator is not charging, the engine will quit running and leave you stranded.

No, this will place a very heavy load on the alternator of the car and may result in burning out the diodes of the car charging the battery. You could easily ruin the alternator. Purchase a battery charger and charge the dead battery with that. Alternators are not made to charge dead batteries.
I kinda wonder that myself...I am running my 12v LED computer fan from a 12v battery pack from my Ryobi drill with the charging cable inserted into the battery...it says its charging, and my fan is running...So, I will see if it doesnt explode...fingers crossed...
As long as the alternator works and your charging system is correct, the new battery will start your truck and keep it running.

The alternator actually puts out a higher voltage than 14 volts while it is running, but it is reduced by a voltage regulator (most of which are already built into the alternator housing), to prevent damage and premature death of the vehicles battery. While your car is not running, the alternator is not charging the battery, and the 13.5 volt reading you get is just the measurement of the voltage the battery is holding at that given point.
