It turns out that it was a bad idle air control valve. Right after I replaced it the loud noise stopped. About a hundred dollar fix, it was well worth it!
The compressor may have a locked rotor in the condenser causing the loud roaring noise. Another possibility is low refrigerant.
If applicable, you may have a faulty (locked up) fan clutch.
It could be a wheel bearing or the center carrier bearing of the driveshaft.
"Noise machines cannot keep out the ouside noises altogether, but they mask these noises using random noise on common frequencies which in effect blanket the outside noise, making it less noticable."

What is the roaring noise from a 1999 Toyota Camry XLE at speeds over 35 ? Sounds like it is coming from the rear.
the wheel bearing on the vehicle will make a roaring noise when you accelerate the faster you go the louder it gets
Bellows mender
A roaring sound is usually caused by a worn out wheel bearing.
I own a 1990 Geo metro. Around town it was fine, but at Highway speeds there was an awful roaring sound. what I discovered was that the rear wheel ball bearings grease had dried out and the bearings were making the noise. I replaced them with a new set from the parts store and the noise has not returned.
Like a roaring noise
