To reset the hood on a Saab 93, first ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the ignition is off. Open the hood and locate the release mechanism, usually found near the front of the hood or on the latch itself. Gently pull the release lever or button to disengage the hood, and then close it firmly to ensure it latches properly. To change oil in Saab 9-3 the hood will need to be opened and then the oil drained by using the drain pan. With the oil plug removed, the oil can now be changed.

There are two bolts that hold the hood to the hinge. 12mm head IIRC. Remove those, and lift the hood off the car. Installation is reverse of removal. Don't forget to remove the windshield washer hose first.

Under the dashboard on the driver's side is a pull handle that partly opens the catch on the hood and then you have to open the catch located midway along under the hood edge by squeezing it and pulling it upwards. The hood should lift and remain in place. To close the hood, push down hard on the top of the hood where it will engage the locking mechanism as it touches the bottom edge of the hood.
There is a small plate with a grid of numbers and letters affixed under the hood. Recalls performed by a Saab dealership are stamped onto that plate. A Saab dealer can decypher the numbers on the plate to let you know which recalls have been performed.
