There can be several reasons for murkiness. To prevent it happening you will need to check what you are doing wrong. In order to keep water in reasonable condition you will need to observe the following. :- 1 inch of fish must have a minimum of 1 gallon of water. Every tank must have a permanently running 'cycled' filter. Every tank must have a minimum of 50% of its water replaced every week. Once these above necessities are all provided then you will need to provide whatever special water parameters your chosen species of fish needs by way of Temperature, pH and General Hardness. If the murkiness is white, this is only air bubbles and will eventually clear itself. If the murkiness is grey, you are failing in one or all of the above requirements because the water is full of suspended bacteria. If the murkiness is green, you have an algae bloom which is caused by either too much light or not enough living plants in the tank or a combination of both.

I have a Crown Tail! This may happen because he is not eating all of his food. This can lead to it clouding the tank. Make sure after about 5 minutes to take your net and scoop out the extra pieces.
