It was one of the 4 major reasons of war, the other three are Alliances, Militarism, Nationalism.
The three causes of the war were the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, widespread militarism and economic imperialism.
It was an important event as it was the casus belli of the First World War. So, I would never consider it as unimportant. Imperialism, alliances, nationalism and militarism had led the European powers on the brink of a war, and in this relation we say that the assassination of the heir of Austria-Hungary (Franz Ferdinand and his wife) was not the real cause of the war.
there were actually 5 main causes: Militarism Alliences Imperialism Nationalism The spark : Assassination

There are actually 4 main causes for WW1. 1. Alliances-Systems of alliances meant to keep peace, but are dangerous. War between 2 nations would involve many more. 2. Imperalism-competition for colonies led to freedom clashes among major powers of Europe and all over the globe. 3. Militarism-The belief in power of strong armies and navies to solve issues. Competition would arise so that they would be bigger than anyone else so no one would touch them. 4. Nationalism-The strong love for ones country led to people protecting their boarders.
An important cause of World War I was the complex system of alliances that developed in Europe, which created a web of obligations among nations. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary in 1914 acted as a catalyst, triggering these alliances and escalating tensions. Nationalism, militarism, and imperial ambitions further fueled rivalries, leading to a large-scale conflict that enveloped multiple countries. The interplay of these factors ultimately set the stage for the war.
The most important influence in setting the stage for World War I was militarism and alliances. When building a military and keeping it strong, became a sign that the country was ready to fight. When the other countries were on edge. Other nations were pulled into the war by alliances and they didn't need to be involved.
Nationalism in many ways lead to World War I. Europeans had fostered a belief in the supremacy of their respective nations. Together with imperialism and militarism, nationalism contributed to a belief that a European war was necessary.not
The ideologies that were present in WWI were militarism (the military and army being the most important part of a group of people), colonialism (setting up colonies in other countries), and nationalism (pride in one's country).
(I THINK about 80% on this one) National loyalties became more important then the concerns of the people. but possibly competition for resources became more intense among some European nations. both of these are true.
An important cause of World War I was the complex system of alliances that developed in Europe, which created a web of obligations among countries. Nationalism fueled tensions, as various ethnic groups sought independence and power, particularly in the Balkans. Militarism also played a significant role, as nations expanded their armies and navies, leading to an arms race. Finally, the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914 acted as a catalyst, triggering the war amid these underlying tensions.
