Neon has completely filled valence orbitals, obeys octet rule and is hence stable. Chlorine needs one more electron to complete octet and is hence reactive.

Which is stable chlorine ion or chlorine molecule?

Chlorine ion (particularly Chloride ion) is more stable than Chlorine molecule

Is neon more stable than carbon?

Neon is stable because it is a noble gas, and is alreadyat the highest configuration already.Where as carbon is not in its highest configuration (2,4) so it can gain 4 electrons or gain 4 electrons thats why it is not more stable.... conclusion ---- neon is more stable ..

Why chlorine is highly reactive than other halogens?

It isn't. Fluorine is more reactive. However, Chlorine is more reactive than Bromine, Iodine and Astatine. It is all to do with molecular size. Fluorine wants to get to a stable 10 electrons to be like Neon more than Chlorine wants to get to get 18 lectrons to be like Argon. This is because the valence/bonding electrons are closer to the nucleus in Fluorine than they are Chlorine and thus more strongly attracted.

Is chlorine more reactive than neon?

Yes, Neon is a noble gas (its outer shell of electrons is full) and does not react with anything, while Chlorine is a halide and is very reactive.

Cl Chlorine

Why is the ionization energy of neon so much larger than that of sodium?

Because it just IS and due to fullfield electron configuration that make noble gas more stable. so neon has more ie.

What will be the charge for chlorine when it becomes ions?

A chlorine ion will have a charge of -1. A chlorine atom gains one electron to form the more stable chloride ion, thereby incurring a charge of -1. There is now one more electron than proton in the chloride ion, as compared to the chlorine atom which is electrically neutral.
