actually for the a/c have 2 units, one is the indoor unit and the other is the outdoor unit, and there will be a refrigerant gas flowing in between the two units (in the copper pipes) when the refrigerant comes to the indoor unit it comes with a cold format .and when the chilled refrigerant comes in the way of the hot air ,the refrigerant becomes hot and the air becomes cool. (there will be a blower inside the indoor unit to blow the air across the refrigerant pipe's and hot refrigerant now goes to the outdoor unit (i.e condenser), where the outside atmosphere air comes across the hot refrigerant so that the hot refrigerant becomes cool and the cold air becomes hot.
so, the indoor unit is maintained in a cool temperature and the outside outdoor unit is maintained at a hotter temperature.
The thermostat is usually powered by the indoor unit or air handler not the outdoor unit. Or the batteries have died, or the control fuse is blown.
Check with the manufacturer to see if they are compatible.
The outdoor unit only runs in the AC mode(unless it is a heat pump). If you have the system off and the fan on, the outdoor unit should not be on. You can run the indoor fan only without harming the system.
The AC unit is fully controlled by the contactor. If the unit turns off by thermostat control such as setting tstat to off, the contactor is ok. The thermostat could be the problem though. yeah i understand that but when i say old unit i mean its so old that the thermostat only have two cables the red one and the white one! the auto and cont the unit has it in the indoor unit!!!
It is not 1 guage, it is a dual guage that measures high and low side pressures that are used in conjuction with the indoor and outdoor temp, unit size, and blower capacity to determine if you have the correct amount of refrigerant in your system.
A valve is used to reverse the flow of freon. In the heat mode, the high or hot side gas is pumped to the indoor unit, The low or cold side is pumped to the outdoor unit. The valve is reversed for the cool mode. Pumping cool gas to the indoor unit and hot gas to the outdoor unit.
To eliminate pick-up of atmospheric temperature which affects performance of the unit adversely.

Change the indoor filter, wipe the indoor unit down, and spray off the condenser
You don`t size a condensing unit to match your indoor unit. You size it to match the rate at which your house gains heat (heat load). Then you buy a matching indoor evaporator coil and set the fan speed on the indoor unit to deliver the proper cfm to support whatever size condenser the heat load calculation says you needed.

Watering cans are used to water indoor flowers.
If your air conditioner is running outside by not blowing cold air inside through your vent, your indoor coil is frozen. You will need to turn everything off and allow the unit to thaw out.
