Why is personal presentation and behavior important in maintaining health and safety in the workplace?
Personal presentation has little to do with maintaining health and safety in the workplace, unless your presentation is distracting to others. Personal behavior is important in maintaining health and safety in the workplace because it includes such things as:
- working conscientiously
- being aware of what others are doing that might subject them to hazards from your activity
- following established safe work procedures
- keeping the workplace neat and orderly
- avoiding horseplay and other distractions.
The way you behave in the workplace is important because you have to work with others there, or with the customers of your employer. Unpleasant behavior will make coworkers less willing to work with you, or unable to work with you effectively. Ethics is important in the workplace, as elsewhere, because ethical conduct is conduct that can be relied upon and involves fair dealing. Without ethics, you get fraud, duplicity, and an every-one-for-himself culture in which cooperation becomes impossible.
