This is an opinion question, and as such you'll probably get a variety of viewpoints. The general consensus for those who believe we should have longer school days is that (a) other countries have them and their students score better on tests; (b) short school days go back to centuries ago when kids were needed to work on the farm, but now, life has changed and kids need more opportunities to study, and (c) if kids are in school for longer hours, they will be spending more time learning rather than hanging on the street and possibly getting into trouble.
The general consensus for those who believe the school day is long enough is that (a) American kids are stressed enough as it is, and why stress them out even more; (b) American kids are learning a lot the way the system is now, so why change it; and (c) it would be expensive to pay teachers, staff, custodians, nurses, and librarians to stay longer hours.

∙ 8y agoSchool is so long because we need to fulfill our minds with amazing facts to be as smart as we can be... NOT I believe that school could be cut back a few hours, and some schools are even putting on a four day school week. Many surveys say that many students would prefer getting more sleep and their grades will improve. also, we spend about 14,145 hours in school excluding homework! that is about 1/40th of our life! That is actually a lot. I much forget in high school half the things that we learn, so school should be about half as short. Then I would be more excited about school.
