In 1997, the marriage laws in Minnesota were amended to ban same-sex marriage, although the Minnesota State Supreme Court had ruled on October 15, 1971 that the marriage statute already banned same-sex marriage. Same-sex marriage was later legalized in Minnesota.

The producer of the very first and popular Slipknot video album "Welcome To The Neighborhood" was Doom Films Production, it was released originally on November 9, 1999 on Roadrunner Records. It features many of the band's early songs including a clip of the song "Spit It Out" which was banned by MTV.
