If you gently lift the eyelid or slide it up a bit and see that the whites of the eyes are bloodshot or red, that probably confirms it and the dog needs to get some eye quality antibiotic eye drops from the vet, maybe even with an eye quality steroid Get the dog to a vet ASAP or maybe an agricultural supply place where they will sell you various animal medicines.

Stand still and don't let the dog know that you are afraid. Don't look it in the eyes, dogs take that to be a challenge. Instead, pretend that you don't notice it.

Dogs don't cry like humans do. If you see a discharge coming from your dog's eyes, then there is a problem with the eyes. Make sure to gently wipe away the discharge with a damp clean cloth. If it continues, then take your dog in to be checked out by your Veterinarian. Eyes are too valuable to just ignore problems.
