Yes it is a physical change. The only other option is chemical change and the metal didnt change its chemical make up, it only changed its shape, and shape is the only thing that did change.
because that one thing will be the variable. if you change more than one thing, the experiment will come out with a different answer because more than one thing is being changed, its like growing two plants, one with miracle grow and one without. you put the one with miracle grow in the sun and is watered often, while the other plant is put in a dark room and watered the same amount. in that situation, the variable is supposed to be the miracle grow but the lack of sunlight on the other plants gives you tainted results.
