What is the reaction of sulphuric acid in water?

It is an exo thermal reaction. It means, heat is produced when they get mixed together. So, we have to be very, very careful while adding water with sulphuric acid, in case to get it diluted, because enormous heat will be produced. You should not pour water on sulphuric acid kept in a bowl. It is very dangerous. Why?Just think. When you pour water on sulphuric acid, enormous heat will be produced which make water to expand abruptly and so an explosion becomes possible which in turn spills the acid all around and even on the person who has poured water on it.So the intelligent way is, instead adding water to the acid it will be better adding acid to water. That too, using a glass rod. Sulphuric acid is poured in smaller amount at top edge of the glass rod kept inclined in a bowl containing water. The acid slowly descends into the water and as soon as it descends heat will be produced. So using another glass rod we have to stir well the water in the bowl so that the heat produced will be distributed all over. This is the right technique to prepare dilute sulphuric acid. The balanced equation is:H2SO4 + 2H2O -> 2H3O+ + SO42-

Why is nitric acid kept in air tight reagent bottle?

Because nitric acid is highly fuming liquid, it spreads in air and is highly corrosive.

Why are the wooden shelves on which sulfuric acid is kept stained black?

Sulphuric acid has an extreme attraction for water, and it can pull the hydrogen and oxygen (the component atoms of water) out of a material such as cellulose, which is primarily what wood is made of, and this leaves behind carbon, which is, of course, black. It is equivalent to charring in a fire.

Can acetone be kept in plastic bottle?

yes it can

What is used to contain sulfuric acid?

Why do we get dew on the surface of a cold soft drink bottle kept in air?

Moisture in the air condenses on the cold bottle. If the air is dry, there will be no dew on the bottle.

Why anthrone reagent needs to be kept cold before using?

Anthrone reagent is prepared in concentrated sulfuric acid. Adding reagents to acid causes immediate dissociation of the reagent and releases heat. If your solution weren't cold, it could generate enough heat to blow out of the flask or bottle.

What is used to contain sulfuric acid?

Sulfuric acid is usually kept in glass containers.

Why do we get dew on the surface of a cold soft drink bottle kept in open air?

Moisture in the air condenses on the cold bottle. If the air is dry, there will be no dew on the bottle.

Why silver bromide is kept in brown bottle?
