The Burj Khalifa means "Khalifa tower" in Arabic. It is named for Sheikh Khalifa (Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan), the emir of Abu Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates.

The Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the world's tallest building since 2010. Originally it was called the Burj Dubai, but problems with the financing and marketing of the huge structure led to seeking outside capital, which was provided by the ruler of the neighboring emirate of Abu Dhabi.
