What are facts about the subarctic region?

Of course there are many interesting facts but if I was to pick two I would pick how far south and north the subarctic extents. The Subarctic refers to a climate zone and it is located below the Arctic. It reaches as far north as a few hundred kilometers (actually closer in some areas) the Arctic ocean in the Yukon and Alaska. It reaches as far south as North Dakota and Northern Ontario. It reaches across Canada from BC to Newfoundland, and is the majority of the Canadian climate, oops that would be a third interesting fact.

How is the climate in the Canadian wilderness?

Warm and sunny ----------- From Arctic to temperate rain-forest. Canada extends from the North Pole to below the 49th parallel and has a lot of what most people would consider wilderness. In the winter most of it will be covered in snow and well below freezing. In the summer it can be 30c during the day, well not in the far north. The Pole has ice year round.

Is Paris the same latitude as Ottawa Ontario?

Paris (nearly 49° N latitude) is actually more northerly than Ottawa (45.4° N), which is one of the southernmost Canadian cities, along with Montreal and Toronto. Paris is about the same latitude as northern Newfoundland, and nearly as far north as Winnipeg. The Gulf Stream current is the major reason that Europe has a more temperate climate than Canadian regions at the same latitudes.
