The FBI is important to US citizens because they protect us from criminals, terrorists and ensure our safety. They handle crimes that pass over state lines, where the state police don't have jurisdiction, and without that we would have a lot of Ted Bundys on our hands.

FBI is one of the few American institutions that the people of the US still have confidence in. No one trusts the CIA, the President, Congress or gov't in general, but they still for the most part revere the FBI as the guardian of the American Constitution.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is an agency of the United States Department of Justice that serves as both a federal criminal investigative body and an internal intelligence agency (counterintelligence). The FBI has investigative jurisdiction over violations of more than 200 categories of federal crime.[2] Its motto is a backronym of FBI, "Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity".

The FBI's headquarters, the J. Edgar Hoover Building, is located in Washington, D.C. Fifty-six field offices are located in major cities throughout the United States, and there are over 400 resident agencies in smaller cities and towns across the country. More than 50 international offices called "legal attachés" are in U.S. embassies and consulates general worldwide.

Is it an FBI or a FBI?

It would be "an" before FBI (an FBI investigation, an FBI agent), because FBI is pronounced "eff-bee-eye."The indefinite article an is used whenever the following spoken sound is a vowel sound, or is very similar to one, notably H sounds. (The word historical is one of several words that may use either a or an.)When you use FBI as a noun, it is neither of the above, and you'd say, "the FBI". The FBI is a specific government agency and not countable. So it is "the FBI" unless you are using FBI as an adjective, then the above rules would apply.Examples:John is an FBI agent.John works for the FBI.
