The inauguration of a US president is not entirely a matter of doctrine or law. The only constitutional stipulations are that the president swear the oath stated in the Constitution and the date upon which he should do so. Washington DC became the traditional location to swear in as President of the United States since Thomas Jefferson did so in 1743. Since then, it has been primarily a matter of the presidential individual wanting to get some rest before getting rogered by the press the next morning.
