The circle is sacred because it represents the never ending circle of life..... It also is the shape of the "father sun" and "sister moon" if you want a song referring to this concept search on YouTube "the river is flowing/we won't go quietly" hope this helped.... I am native American so I can tell ou this is true information as I learned it from my elders.
The "Circle" was important to all Native Americans. The "Circle" represented "Life" and "the world" as all things followed these rules. The Sun, Stars and Moon traveled in a circle (IE: the sun came up every day, the moon followed a definable pattern); the Seasons followed the same circle, from winter, to spring, summer fall and winter again. Men followed the same path, from birth to death just like the seasons. Animals also followed these patterns. The "Circle" was the easiest geometric form that explained these observable patterns. It should also be noted that the sun was round, the moon (at full face) was round; and the moon moved like man does through life - from nothing (no moon) to full (full moon) then to nothing again.
North American natives certainly viewed the circle as a sacred shape - they knew this to be true, because nature always comes down to circles in many forms.
The Plains tribes could stand in the centre of a million square miles of open grasslands and see the horizon as a circle surrounding them; the wind in its most violent form makes a "twister" that rotates in a circle; birds make their nests in a circle; the sun and moon are circles; even a man's arm, leg or waist can be seen as roughly circular in cross-section; stones are roughly circular; a pebble dropped into a stream creates endless circles; a branch or tree trunk cut across its width is circular. The seasons rotate in endless cycles and the four directions are all part of a circle.
There are many more natural circles in nature and natives saw this as positive proof that the circle was a spiritual and sacred shape.
The sacred circle represents life. Basically, that life begins and ends and begins again, never ending.
