First, an air DUCT is not a bird or water fowl spelled duck. A duct is an enclosed chamber for air to pass through.
The warmer the air, the more moisture the air can hold. Colder air cannot support as much moisture. Anything cold, like a glass with ice in it, or cold sheet metal as in exposed duct to warmer air will have a cooling layer of air around it. As the moisture laden air cools, it can't support the water vapor in it, and the water vapor drops out of the air, condensing on the colder surface. To prevent it, insulate the cold duct from the warmer air, preventing the warm air from coming in contact with the cold surface.
