Koshary is a national dish to Egyptians.. its not about being important or not.. its a cheap tummy filling Egyptian meal.. Most popular in poor areas and districts but is definitely eaten and enjoyed by all classes. And the word koshary is the origin of the word Cosher (Halal).. food that is eaten by Jews and Muslims. And its called Koshary because all its ingredients are Cosher (Halal) its includes Macaroni, rice, Shereeya (small longtudinal macaroni like food) , fried onions and sometimes fried liver cubes... very delicious.
