How does calcium's first ionization energy compare to the first ionization energy of magnesium and potassium?

First ionization energy of magnesium = 870/ kj/mol First ionization energy of phosphorous = 589 kj/mol So, magnesium has the larger ionization energy required to pull the first valance electron. Do you know why?

What is magnesium ionization energy?

The first magnesium ionization energy is 737,7 kJ/mol.

What is the chemical equation for magnesium using 2 electrons to form magnesium ion?

Mg + Ionization energy ----> Mg2+ + 2e

Is it going to be easier for a magnesium atom to gain or lose electrons?

Magnesium is a metal, and metals lose electrons to form positive ions. Magensium (Mg) will lose two electrons, which means its first and second ionization energies are relatively low compared to its third ionization energy.

Why does magnesium have an ionization number of 2?

Magnesium is in group 2 of the Periodic table, and so has 2 electrons in its outermost energy level. Therefore, its outermost energy level is full once 2 electrons are removed, and so it has an ionisation number of 2

The energy required to remove electrons from an atom is called?

Ionization energy

Which one has the lowest ionization energy magnesium (Mg) chlorine (C?

Chlorine is Cl, C is carbon. The first ionization energy of magnesium is less than that of chlorine.

Do the elements form anion have high or loe ionization energy?

low ionization energy

What is the energy needed to remove electrons from an atom called?

ionization potential energy. but remember the atom must be neutral .

What elements has the highest first ionization energy out of strontium magnesium beryllium calcium?

Beryllium will have the highest. Down a group ionization energy decreases.

How would you explain the fact that the first ionization enthalpy of sodium is lower than that of magnesium but its second ionization enthalpy is higher than that of magnesium?

Sodium has only one valence electron, and when that is donated to some other atom, the remaining ion has a noble gas configuration that is highly stable. Disrupting that by another ionization requires much energy. Magnesium has two valence electrons; therefore the second is almost as easy to donate as the first. The third ionization enthalpy of magnesium would be very high.

How many electrons are in the third energy level of magnesium atom?

2 electrons. Magnesium has 12 total, in 3 shells, 2,8,2There are two electrons in magnesium's third energy level.
