The human larynx rests in a frame of cartilage bound by ligaments and muscles. At the front is the thyroid cartilage, creating the lump at the front of the neck, known as the laryngeal prominence or more commonly as the Adam's apple.
Regarding the etymology of the term "Adam's apple", Webster's 1913 dictionary states that the term "… is so called from a notion that it was caused by the forbidden fruit, (an apple) sticking in the throat of our first parent."
Laryngeal prominence
The larynx grows during puberty in males much more than in females, and as a result the Adam's apple is typically more prominent in adult men than in women or prepubescent girls or boys. This growth of the larynx is also the reason for the voice cracking in teenage boys.
The reason for the Adam's apple being more prominent in males is that the two laminae of the cartilage meet at an angle of 90° in males but that angle is 120° in females.
For some transwomen, the Adam's apple remains more prominent than desired, and this is sometimes remedied by a chondrolaryngoplasty (trachea shave), a type of plastic surgery to reduce the size of the Adam's apple.
Its the cartilage over top of your larynx (voice box). The bigger it is, the deeper your voice will be usually. Women have them but they are no pronounced because they don't have deep voices usually.
Larynx is also called Adam's apple, because it mostly resembles like a the Adam's apple which is mentioned in Bible , a round-kind structure, which Adam ate. This Adam's apple appear in both girls and boys but in boys they grow more at the time of puberty....
thank you
An Adam's apple is part of the larynx or voice box. When going through puberty, hormones cause the larynx to grow rapidly. Along with the bulge in the neck, the voice becomes deeper.
And it's when Adam swallowed a apple and it got jammed in his throat.
Well, only men get Adams Apple but U don't get it when your still small age of when it happens depends on the person thing It's good cos so then when your on the phone you'll know if its and man or women. Even if U get it U really shouldn't be ashamed or anything as every man will get (the lump) it eventually.
Men generally have a deeper voice than women and to accomodate for this difference, their voice box, which is referred to as the Adam's Apple in men, has more muscles in it, to produce a deeper sound, thus it is more prominent, whereas women have a soft voice, so their larynx does not have such features and they have a smaller voice box, and no visible Adam's Apple.
The AdamÕs apple protects the larynx in the throat from being crushed. It can also promote a deep voice in males.
i have a sore Adams apple for a while now what could this be please
Inflammation of the pharynx is called as pharyngitis. inflammation of the larynx is called as laryngitis. Usually they do not come together.
Adam's apple
The slight projection at the front of the throat formed by the largest cartilage of the larynx, usually more prominent in men than in women. [Ultimately translation of French pomme d'Adam, pomegranate, Adam's apple (sense influenced by Arabic rummāna, pomegranate, Adam's apple) : pomme, apple + de, of + Adam, Adam.]
The Adams Apple is called the larynx. During puberty, in males, the larynx enlarges and protrudes through the throat.
It is one of the cartilages of the larynx or voice box called thyroid cartilage.
LARYNX
I believe it is a part of your larynx (voice box)
A vocal cord produces your voice. its located inside the larynx, which is in the throat area near the Adams apple.

yes females have Adams apple, but it is not been appeared because of the differences of gender
When a Adams apple grows then that means your voice will crack and will become deeper all thanks to puberty. I'm 13 and i still havn't gotten ym voice "cracked" maybe next year..
The "Adam's apple" is the bony protruberance of the larynx in a male human. To the best of my knowledge, the same protruberance on a dog's larynx is not called the "Adam's apple" regardless of gender. However, both a male and a female dog do have the protruberance, as do both male and female humans - it just tends to be less pronounced in females of both species.
This is an enlargement of the thyroid cartilage in the larynx. It changes with puberty, usually in males. It gets longer and causes the voice to deepen.
