No accident, sorry Jayne, the film was not that popular. it was adapted from the Novel by John Steinbeck. Steinbeck- who had seen what TV-Land did to ( the Grapes of Wrath_ inverting the tragic aspects to make a silly South-western sitcom ( Beverly Hillbillies)- well, he did not like the screen adaptation. Also there was a totally unrelated ( in plot content- though it might have involved a Bus Terminal)- film called Bus Stop. It was also a play- I understand both Jayne and Marilyn Monroe were in adaptations of the Bus Stop. Confusion of the very similar titles ( Wayward Bus, and Bus Stop) well some traffic congestion in filmland. Mr. Steinbeck was a Nobel Laureate and well, did not like how H-wood treated his usually serious novels.
