Really it is the Red Sea
The Book of Exodus recounts that after the Jewish people were released from Egypt by Pharaoh, they headed in to the desert. Pharaoh had a change of heart and followed the Jewish people to the Red Sea. A miracle occurred and the sea split to allow the Jews to pass through it. When the Egyptians attempted to follow, the sea closed in on them and they were drowned. When the people reached the other shore of the Red Sea they sang a song of praise to God. Moses sang with the men and his sister Miriam sang with the women. There is no record of any woman having ever sung before that moment, although they all had tambourines.
