Fuses That "Blow" Repeatedly
Without being able to "hands on" troubleshoot the circuit served by the repeatedly blowing fuse, no one can identify the specific cause/defect which is causing your problem.
The following generic answer applies to any electrical circuit, whether in a vehicle or in a building, or whether alternating current [AC] or direct current [DC].
Fuses [and Circuit Breakers] are safety devices designed and installed in electrical circuits TO PROTECT the conductors [wires] and other components from short circuit conditions and/or overload conditions which can cause extreme flow of electrical current [measured in Amperes], and overheating of the conductors that can result in damage to the insulation and the conductors. And in a worst case, the probability of a FIRE which could destroy the vehicle, house, or other structure in which the circuit is located.
When a fuse [and replacement fuses, or "tripping" Circuit Breakers] "blow," especially if it happens repeatedly, is an indication of an UNSAFE CONDITION in that circuit, usually a short.
The fuse or circuit breaker is doing what it was designed, intended, and installed to do, protect the components of the circuit which it serves.
The proper "fix" is for a qualified technician, who knows what he or she is doing, to troubleshoot the involved circuit, find and identify the defect, and make proper repair [s], BEFORE replacing the fuse again [with the properly sized fuse or before resetting a circuit breaker].
Some ignorant few will suggest installing a larger fuse or breaker to solve the problem, BUT that will only increase the hazard, not correct it. Do not follow "bad" advice and install a larger fuse in a misguided attempt to correct the problem. To install an over-sized fuse would almost guarantee damage to the wiring and an electrical system fire.
I have the same problem with the same year and model. Any ideas?
I am having the same problem, Have you had any luck finding out what it is
Nov.13/09 my 89 olgs. Just had the same problem, fuel pump is going needs replacing keeps blowing main fuse, try changing fuse under hood, if blows again change pump
Really....? Find the fuse in the fuse box (either in the interior fuse box or the one under the hood), pull the fuse out, see that it is blown, replace it WITH the SAME size fuse. If it keeps blowing there is a wiring issue.
A short in any part of the wiring or in the motor itself can cause the fuse to keep blowing. Don't try a bigger fuse you can start a fire that way. follow the wires from the control box to the seat belt motor and the to the fuse box. If there is any damaged wire replase it with the same gauge wire.
You have a bare wire that keeps shorting out & blowing the fuse, I had the same problem. The wire is the one that runs from the fuse to the fuel pump. The casing has melted away and now the wires are touching.
I would lilke to know the answer to this as well. Having the same problem all of a sudden.
I assume you mean the fuse keeps blowing? It's certainly possible for the lighter element itself to go bad as well as the socket you plug it into. Also, there are often other circuits that use the same fuse.
just the same as blowing over top a bottle
I had the same problem! I found out it was from moisture and corrosion getting into the fuse box under the hood. I was causing thinside box to blow fuses! I put a thin piece of plastic covered rubber foam over box under the hood to seal it and never had the problem again! One other problem I had with the same car was water around the tail lights causing the fuse to blow! Check the seals around the covers!
there is a fuse under the hood for "fuel ingtion system" # 20 amp change that im searching why my car keeps blowing the same fuse
I can't tell you how but I can say you have an electrical problem. There is something shorting out also there should be other accesories not working that are on the same fuse
