The trial before Pilate is important for only one reason and that is that it gave Christ the opportunity to die for mankind's sin. Had there not been a trial and the death of Christ at that time, God would have come up with another way for Christ to die for the sins of the world. God only used the Roman court to promote the death of Christ.

The trial before Pilate is important for Christians today because it highlights Jesus' innocence and the unjust treatment he faced. It serves as a reminder of the suffering and sacrifice Jesus endured for the sake of humanity. The trial also demonstrates the power of political and social pressures that can lead to the rejection of truth and the persecution of righteousness.

Is authorship of the Gospels an important issue for Christians in today's society?

I do not believe that authorship of the Gospels is an important issue for Christians today. Most Christians have faith and do not question or try to justify that faith. For some Christians, the truth of the Gospels is based on the assumption that they were written by eyewitnesses or close associates of eyewitnesses. It is also based, to some extent, on the assumption that the Gospels are not dependent on each other, thus providing a level of mutual verification. For these Christians it may be an important issue to realise that the Gospels were actually written much later than generally assumed and that the authors were neither eyewitnesses nor close associates of eyewitnesses. It may also be important for them that the Gospels of Matthew, Luke and John are based, directly or indirectly, on the earliest Gospel, Mark.

Why is the creed important today?

The Apostle's Creed is both an affirmation of what Christians believe today, but also a connection we share with all Christians in the eternal church. The Creed we recite today is the same creed that was recited a thousand years ago. The thought of that connection in Christ is breath taking. The Apostle's Creed is a prayer that very well summarizes the entire faith of the members of the Catholic church. It is important because by reciting the prayer often, it reminds Catholics what they believe in exactly. It also is important because, as a prayer, it reinforces your belief as you say it to God. It was required in the earlier Church to be memorized and recited by Catechumens before admission to baptism.
