∙ 14y agoThis is a trick question because there are NOT 4 time zones in the U.S. There are actually 9, repeat NINE standard time zones in the U.S.: Atlantic Standard Time (AST), Eastern Standard Time (EST), Central Standard Time (CST), Mountain Standard Time (MST), Pacific Standard Time (PST), Alaskan Standard Time (AKST), Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time (HST), Samoa standard time (UTC-11) and for Guam there's Chamorro Standard Time (UTC+10).

∙ 10y agoImagine the 4 CONUS time zones side by side. How many lines are there where these time zones touch? The answer is 3, and that is why there is 3 hours difference: the time changes where the time zones touch (3 places), not in the middle of each of the 4 time zones.
