Chozo statues are everywhere and Ridley never did like the Chozo, although he appreciated their technological abilities, he began to see them as worthless, having let Samus, an "inferior" human, be amongst them. He probably destroyed it out of anger or a sense of nostalgia, as he may have been partly responsible for their destruction.
