The easy answer is that knowing science allows you to know how things works.

The harder answer is that it doesn't so much matter if you KNOW science, you merely need to understand how to think in a reasonable manner. The scientific method is one of the best ideas ever created. It allows you to remove subjectivity and to test out how things work.

It is incredibly advantageous to be able to think along reasonable lines. You'll come to the correct answer sooner or more accurately.
