Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) are the chemicals used in refrigeration and air-conditioning systems that are responsible for the destruction of the ozone layer in the atmosphere. When released into the air, these chemicals break down ozone molecules, leading to the thinning of the ozone layer.
Chlorofluorocarbons also known as CFC's. These were primarily used as refrigerants (in refrigerators), propellants (in aerosols) and solvent. They've been practically banned now for 30 years or so as a result of which the ozone layer depletion is more or less stable now.

cfc's react with ozone and deplete it. and ozone protects the earth from the harmful uv rays of the sun. so with the ozone layer depleted, earth and life on earth is exposed to the harful rays and causes various ailments and also leads to global warming

If these are not limited, humans and other animals would be exposed to more cancer causing UV Rays. Depletion of the ozone layer is caused by certain chemicals such as CFC's, freons, and halons that were present in some refrigerants in the past. These chemicals are no longer allowed to be used.
First, ozone is NOT used in filters; some ionic filters actually emit ozone, which is a health hazard. Ozone is only good for humans when it is high in the atmosphere where it blocks harmful ultra-violet sunlight from reaching Earth's surface. Ozone is also used to disinfect drinking water in some municipalities. You do not want to introduce large volumes of ozone into your lungs, it is very damaging to your cells.
The Dobson unit (DU) is used to measure the total amount of ozone in the Earth's atmosphere. It is a unit of measurement for the total column thickness of ozone in a vertical column of air from the surface to the edge of space. Researchers use specialized instruments like spectrophotometers to measure the concentration of ozone in the atmosphere in Dobson units.
