There are gods (devas) mentioned in the Tipitika, but they have little importance. For the Buddha, there were only four things that were of importance:
- Suffering
- The cause of suffering
- The cessation of suffering
- The path leading to the cessation of suffering.
The Buddha did not see any importance in belief or disbelief in God regarding these.
