There are gods (devas) mentioned in the Tipitika, but they have little importance. For the Buddha, there were only four things that were of importance:

  1. Suffering
  2. The cause of suffering
  3. The cessation of suffering
  4. The path leading to the cessation of suffering.

The Buddha did not see any importance in belief or disbelief in God regarding these.
